Two women police personnel were injured after decorative plantain trees erected at the entrance of a campaign venue collapsed due to strong winds ahead of a public meeting addressed by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin at Sattanathapuram in Sirkazhi, Mayiladuthurai district, on Tuesday evening.

The trees, tied on both sides of the entrance, gave way about an hour before the meeting. Santhi, 30, and Sabitha Sujith, 25, who were on security duty, sustained injuries. They were rescued by police and taken to the Government Hospital in Sirkazhi.
