Coimbatore-based cyclist and social activist G.T. Vishnu Ram was recently honoured at the UK Parliament for his awareness campaign on women’s safety and drug abuse prevention.

The recognition was presented by the World Book of Records at an international awards ceremony held at the UK Parliament. Participants from more than 10 countries attended the event, and Mr. Vishnu Ram was the only awardee from south India.

The award recognised his record-setting 500-km cycling expedition from Dhanushkodi to Coimbatore, completed in 15 hours and eight minutes, to create awareness on women’s safety and the need for a drug-free society. The feat was earlier recognised as a world record.

The honour was presented in connection with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in recognition of his efforts to promote social awareness through cycling.
