The State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu Limited (SIPCOT), a State-owned Corporation, has proposed to set up an eco-tourism park at Top Sengattupatti on Pachamalai hills in the Eastern Ghats.
SIPCOT has so far been concentrated on establishing industrial parks across the State to enable industrialists and entrepreneurs to get plots on a long-term lease for erecting industries. It has now forayed into the concept of establishing tourism parks in different parts of the State to lease out plots for the players, who are in the hospitality industry. In coordination with the Tourism Department and Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation, SIPCOT has begun the process of identifying places of tourism potential to establish tourism parks at suitable places in the State. As part of the initiative, SIPCOT has identified a piece of land at Top Sengattupatti, where ecotourism has gained momentum in the recent past.
According to sources, a piece of land parcel to an extent of 3.47 acres has been identified for the proposal. Tiruchi Collector V. Saravanan has also made an inspection to analyse various aspects of the land.
Sources told The Hindu that a proposal had been sent to the State government to transfer the land to SIPCOT and it was under active consideration. A Government Order was expected shortly to establish an eco-tourism Park at Topsengattupatti. Pachamalai hills had the potential to attract tourists for a short stay. If all necessary infrastructure were provided, Pachamalai could attract more tourists. Once the established land was brought under the control of SIPCOT, it would begin the process of launching the park. It would ultimately enable the interested players to look for the site on a long-term lease for establishing a hill resort or hotel.
