RPF books 5,152 offenders, including women, in new SCoR zone

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the newly operational South Coast Railway (SCoR) zone on Saturday (August 8, 2026) cracked down heavily on station indiscipline and railway violations, taking strict legal action against 5,152 offenders within the first two months of the zone’s inception.

Official performance data revealed that women offenders account for roughly 5-7% of this total tally, reflecting targeted enforcement across mixed demographics during intensive station checks.

Intensive station sanitisation and compliance drives

Operating across a compact network of 3,532-route-kilometres since June 1, 2026, the RPF deployed rigorous checking mechanisms to clean up major transit hubs. Extensive sanitation and compliance drives—particularly centred around high-traffic facilities like the Visakhapatnam Railway Station—targeted unauthorised vending, platform loitering, trespassing, and ticketless travel to establish immediate order.

Crack down on contraband and NDPS cases

Alongside misdemeanor penalties, security personnel intensified on-board surveillance and intelligence operations. “These targeted sweeps yielded major breakthroughs against illicit trafficking, resulting in the detection of 28 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) cases and the seizure of illegal narcotics valued at ₹2.37 crore,” SCoR general manager Sandeep Mathur told The Hindu.

High daily policing density across divisions

Averaging roughly 85 to 90 penal interventions daily across its four divisions, SCoR’s security apparatus has set an aggressive enforcement standard.

Speaking to The Hindu, an RPF official said “When compared with similarly sized zones across Indian Railways—such as South Western, North Central, West Central, North Eastern, and Northeast Frontier Railways—our new South Coast zone operates in a distinct tier. While those mid-sized peers log steady, standard bi-monthly outputs across their compact networks, our startup posture drove 5,000 odd penal actions in just two months. Averaging 85 to 90 daily interventions, we targeted high-density hubs like Visakhapatnam to establish immediate station discipline. Furthermore, our strategic coastal positioning yielded exceptional contraband seizures. Operating completely from scratch required this aggressive, zero-tolerance enforcement density to secure our network right from day one.”
