A 40-year-old man was beaten to death in Namakkal, and the accused was arrested on Saturday (September 26, 2026).
The deceased, P. Ramasamy, a resident of the Tiruchi district, was a painter. According to the police, he was staying at Erumapatti for the past few weeks, and was working in a private building. On Friday evening, he consumed liquor at Muttanchavadi Road.
At that time, M. Thambidurai (30), a resident of Erumapatti, was also consuming liquor next to him. Police said a quarrel between them, in an inebriated state, and Thambidurai allegedly attacked Ramasamy using a stone. In the attack, he sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot. Thambidurai fled from the spot.
The Erumapatti police sent the body to Namakkal Government Hospital for post-mortem. The police registered a case and, on Saturday, arrested Thambidurai.
