Two dead and several trapped in Kurla landslide in Mumbai

Two person were dead and one was injured on Wednesday (August 12, 2026) after a landslide in Kurla region in Mumbai eastern suburb. At least six persons are reported to be trapped under the debris. Rescue operation is underway.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported this as a level II incident which occurred around 3:48 a.m. at Gaushiya Chawl in Chirag Nagar, Near Rathod medical in Kurla West. BMC Mayor Ritu Tawade has also reached the spot. 

The two deceased are identified as Sohel Ansari (18) and Mohamad Ansari (14). Both were sent to Rajawadi Hospital. CMO Dr. Vishal declared Mohamad brought dead, while Sohel sustained head injuries.  

“Landslide and some part was fallen on nearby two to three rooms of chawl structure. As per the witnesses, six-eight persons were trapped under debris. The rescue operation work is underway by NDRF personnel & 50 BMC personnels,” stated BMC authority 

On ground, two Divisional Fire Officer (DFO), Assistant Divisional Fire Officer (ADFO), two Senior Station Officer(SrSO), four Station Officer, four Fire Engine, two Fire Tender, two Rescue Vehicle, two Mobile Water Tanker, one Water Quick Response Vehicle have joined the rescue operation.
