Department of Forests has invited students and volunteers interested to participate in the annual bird census to be taken up across Virudhunagar district on December 27 and 28.
In a statement, Deputy Director of Srivilliputtur Meghamalai Tiger Reserve R. Murugan has said that the enumeration of water birds would be taken up in 21 places, including Rajapalayam, Devadanam, Srivilliputtur, Watrap, Kovilar dam, Periyar dam, Koomapatti, Veragasumudram, Kullursandhai, Aruppukottai, Ulakudi, Irukkangudi, Vemabakottai dam, Sankarapandiyapuram, Kottaiyoor and Thayilpatti.
This exercise would reveal the presence of domestic birds and international birds and the details about the international birds that have come for breeding.
Students from schools, colleges and members of voluntary organisations can contact the office of Deputy Director over 04563-260565 and the Sivakasi Forest Range Officer Pooventhan over 84890-54853 and register themselves to participate in the enumeration exercise.
The participants would get a certificate of participation from the Department of Forest, the statement said.
