At the 13th edition of the “Champions of Chennai” awards presented by the non profit organisation, KSA trust, in the city on Monday, seven individuals and organisations were recognised for their contributions to art & culture, education, enterprise, healthcare, science, social initiative, and sports. The awards were given by chief guest Irai Anbu, former Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary.
Humour Club International (Triplicane Chapter) received the award for Art & culture for promoting entertainment through clean humour. The Education award went to Ravi Kasi Venkatraman, headmaster of Maraimalai Adigal Government Higher Secondary School, Pallavaram. Murray & Co Auction House received the Enterprise award, while Platelet Patrons Charitable Trust (Platelet Club), a voluntary blood donation organisation, was honoured in the Healthcare category.
Besant Animal Memorial Dispensary(BMAD) received the Social initiative award. V. Saranraj, a national-level boxer and NIS-certified coach who runs Mahanaim Boxing Club, received the Sports award. Garuda Aerospace Limited, an Indian drone technology company, was honoured in the Science category.
“Our idea is to uphold the silent champions as role models for the youth today. We organise regular talks to schools, colleges and companies so they can benefit from the learnings and experiences of the champions,” said K. Kalyanasundaram, Managing Trustee of KSA Trust. T. R. Gopalakrishnan, Trustee, KSA Trust, said the awardees were nominated by the public and selected by a jury for their contributions to meaningful social changes.
