Madurai City Police have arrested Anantharaman, former Murappanadu Sub-Registrar (Thoothukudi district) in connection with the illegal registration of trust land serving Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple. He was arrested on Thursday.

This is 6th arrest made by Central Crime Branch sleuths probing the multi-crore land scam.

The then Sub-Registrar had been named as the 15th accused in the case registered in July.

Anantharaman has been accused of illegally registering the land through a power of attorney to two accused identified as S. Ilayaraja of Usilampatti and P. Aneesh of Tiruvallur in April 2021 at the Murappanadu Sub-Registrar office.

The land was subsequently transferred to three others through pledging in July 2021 at the Vadamadurai Sub-Registrar office.

Already, former Tahsildar, Anbalagan, and former VAO, Arasan, have been arrested in this case.
