Keralam Transport Minister C.P. John flagged off the cargo service at a function held at the Thiruvananthapuram Domestic Airport cargo terminal in on Wednesday (October 7, 2026).
The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation’s (KSRTC) cargo service has made a strong debut, transporting one tonne of mobile phones from Thiruvananthapuram to Aluva in its inaugural consignment.
The consignment, flown from Delhi to Thiruvananthapuram International Airport by Air India, was transported to Aluva in a truck hired by the KSRTC. Transport Minister C.P. John flagged off the cargo service at a function held at the Thiruvananthapuram Domestic Airport cargo terminal in on Wednesday (October 7, 2026).
Five vehicles initially
Speaking after the inaugural function, the Minister said that this project, included in the government’s 100-day action plan, marked a significant milestone in KSRTC’s history. The cargo service, launching with five vehicles in the initial phase, would be expanded gradually. This new system would help strengthen KSRTC’s existing logistics network and boost non-ticket revenue, he said, adding that the KSRTC would eventually evolve to operate a large fleet comprising over a hundred trucks.
The KSRTC ventured into this sector after studying the successful cargo service models implemented by various State Road Transport Corporations across the country, as part of efforts to increase non-ticket revenue. The revenue generated from this initiative will be utilised in a manner that benefits KSRTC passengers. Currently, five trucks taken on a wet-lease basis are being used for the cargo operations.
The Minister said Scorpion Cart Logistics and Cargo Cart Logistics were providing support to KSRTC for this service.
