Southern Railway clinched the championship title at the 61st All India Railway Ball Badminton Championship, defeating South Coast Railway (SCoR) 2-0 in the final at the Railway Ball Badminton Courts here on Saturday.
South Coast Railway finished runners-up, while Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai, secured third place in the three-day tournament.
Organised by the South Coast Railway Sports Association (SCORSA) from August 20 to 22, the championship featured eight zonal railway teams from across the country.
South Coast Railway General Manager Sandeep Mathur, who was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony, presented trophies to the winning teams and outstanding performers. Kalai Selvan was adjudged the Star Player, while Rajesh of Southern Railway received the Best Player award.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Mathur commended the players for their sportsmanship and said national-level sporting events promoted fitness, discipline and camaraderie among railway employees, in keeping with the objectives of the Fit India Movement.
Divisional Railway Manager, Visakhapatnam Division, Lalit Bohra, congratulated the Southern Railway team on its performance and appreciated the organisers, coaches and support staff for the smooth conduct of the championship.
