Karnataka State Commission for Women Chairperson Nagalakshmi Choudhary, on Saturday, visited McGann Hospital and the Women’s Police Station in Shivamogga and interacted with women about the government machinery’s response to their problems.

During her visit to the hospital, she asked women patients and their attendants about the facilities available. Many complained to her about the conduct of the staff, the delay in obtaining lab reports, and being forced to procure medicines from outside, among other issues.

She instructed officers to prevent pregnant women from waiting in queues for hours and asked them to increase the number of registration counters.

Ms. Choudhary questioned the Dean and other hospital administrators about the complaints and insisted that they provide patients with the necessary care and facilities. She also asked the women engaged for cleaning work about their salary and other entitlements. Dean Dr. Ramesh Babu, Medical Superintendent Dr. Thimmappa and others accompanied her.

During her visit to the police station, Ms. Choudhary reviewed the infrastructure facilities available for women and asked police officers about the status of investigations into cases of missing women and other criminal cases. She instructed officials to respond promptly to women’s grievances and register complaints without delay.
