The Kannur Town police have arrested a 29-year-old Bangladeshi woman who has been allegedly staying and working in Kannur without valid travel documents and using an “illegally obtained” Aadhaar card.
The arrested person is Salina Akter of Faridpur, Bangladesh. Acting on confidential information received by the intelligence wing that a foreign national without valid documents was working at a spa near the Kannur railway station, a police team led by Town sub-inspector T.K. Akhil conducted a search at the establishment on Monday afternoon (September 14).
According to the police, Ms. Akter was unable to produce a passport, visa, or other valid documents authorising her to stay in India. She reportedly told the police that her identification documents were stored on her mobile phone.
The police said that after she provided the pattern to unlock her phone, they found photographs of a Bangladeshi national identity card bearing the name Salina Akter, daughter of Mohammed Selim Gazi, with Faridpur given as the place of address and Bangladesh as the nationality. The card also mentioned Dhaka as her place of birth.
When questioned, she admitted that she did not possess a valid passport, visa, or other travel documents required for staying in India, the police said.
They added that she had arrived in Keralam on July 31 and had been working at a spa here for the past few months.
The police registered a case under Section 3(1), read with Section 21 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. The arrest was made by a team led by sub-inspector T.K. Akhil and comprising civil police officers Kiran, Vinto, and Neetu.
