Unaccounted cash of ₹44,000 was seized from various sub-registrar offices in Thiruvananthapuram district of Keralam in simultaneous inspections conducted by the Vigilance department on Wednesday based on information that officials were accepting bribes through document writers for various services
The surprise inspections were conducted at the Pattom, Chala, Thiruvallam, Sasthamangalam, Kazhakuttam and Nemom sub-registrar offices as part of ‘Project Zero’ launched by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) to achieve the goal of a corruption-free Kerala. The raids are aimed at detecting and preventing corruption and irregularities in the service systems of various government offices.
During the inspection conducted at the Chala Sub-Registrar Office, ₹35,310 was found hidden inside the registers in the record room of the office. In addition, ₹5,000 was seized from a vendor who could not clearly explain the purpose of the money. Vigilance suspects that the said amount may have been delivered to pay to officials.
During the inspection at the Sasthamangalam Sub-Registrar Office, unaccounted cash of ₹3,130 was seized from the record room and unaccounted cash of ₹700 was seized from the record room of the Pattom Sub-Registrar Office.
