The State Government has issued the final Gazette notification with details of the delimitation of the existing 98 wards of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) into 120 wards. This officially increases the number of wards in the city, from 98 to 120. The Gazette was published on September 14, 2026.

GVMC Commissioner, Ketan Garg on Tuesday, said that, as per the procedure prescribed by the State Government for the delimitation of wards, a preliminary notification was initially issued inviting objections and suggestions from the public. After examining the objections and suggestions received, the final Gazette notification was issued, finalising the delimitation of GVMC into 120 wards.

He stated that the Gazette contains the details of the areas and boundaries of the newly finalised 120 wards. The Commissioner advised citizens to take note of the changes and ascertain the ward in which their respective areas fall.

The Commissioner added that the AP State Election Commission issued a notification on September 15 directing that ward-wise photo electoral rolls based on the newly delimited wards be published on September 22. As per the directions of the State Election Commission, necessary steps are being taken to prepare and publish the ward-wise photo electoral rolls for the newly constituted GVMC wards, taking January 1, 2026, as the qualifying date and duly adopting the latest Assembly electoral rolls.

He said that, as specified in the State Election Commission notification, the respective Zonal Commissioners of GVMC will be responsible for the preparation and publication of the ward-wise photo electoral rolls within their respective zonal jurisdictions.

The Commissioner appealed to the citizens to take note of the boundaries of the newly finalised wards and also verify their details in the ward-wise photo electoral rolls to be published on September 22.
