International singer-songwriter Celina Sharma reveals a more personal side of herself with her new EP, Chapter 2. Featuring five tracks, the EP reflects the struggles and uncertainties she faced through the ups and downs of her career. “It is a personal project for me as every song has a bit of my story,” says the singer on a video call from the UK.

The 24-year-old, who rose to fame through viral TikTok hits, refers to her early singles as Chapter One. With Chapter 2, Celina felt it was time to show a more personal side of herself. “Although I am originally from Australia, many do not know that I also have an Indian heritage. As new people continue to follow me on Instagram and TikTok, I felt it was important to show that side of myself.”

For someone who does not easily open up about her emotions, the experience was “not scary, but new”. “Some songs were challenging to write as they required me to be honest about my feelings.

Celina grew up in Wollongong, a small coastal town near Sydney in Australia. She is half Indian, from Jalandhar, Punjab, on her father’s side and love spending time with her family there when she gets the chance. Inspired by powerhouse vocalists such as Whitney Houston, Céline Dion, Aretha Franklin and Beyoncé, Celina’s music style is versatile but in Chapter 2, listeners get to hear her raw, natural voice. “I feel this is the most powerful and fitting way to tell my story and share my voice with the world.” ”

The 18-month project is close to her heart for the time, effort and emotion that went into making it. The opening track, 24 Hours Away, reflects on an important chapter of her life: at 16, she travelled alone from Sydney to London to pursue her dreams. Dear Mama is a heartfelt tribute to her mother and the support she provided throughout her journey. If I Made This Song for You explores grief and loss, while Another Life reflects on separation and hope. Centre of Peace, a collaboration with Sonu Nigam, is about finding inner calm, faith and honesty amid life’s uncertainties. “It’s an amazing opportunity and honour to have him in Chapter 2. He has elevated the song so much.”

Social media and the internet have opened new avenues for independent singers. Celina describes the digital space as a blessing, giving emerging voices an opportunity to reach audiences around the world. It has also made international collaborations easier, she says, pointing to her work with Nigam. “It is also easy to collaborate with artists from different countries, whose fans also support and encourage you.”

Her social media inbox is often filled with messages not only from aspiring singers but also from young people seeking advice and encouragement. Recalling the launch of Centre of Peace with Nigam at Wembley, she says, “I was standing with my parents in the audience when a little girl who wanted to be a singer asked me, ‘How do I get into singing?’ I told her, ‘Get out there. Social media is big. Putting your music out is the best way, and it can reach people across the globe.’”

She is already looking ahead to what comes after Chapter 2. “We have worked on some songs in the past and I am excited to bring them out. Listeners this time will get to see a happy and energetic side of me.”
