Minister inspects Yettinahole project works, assures completion in two months

Minister for Water Resources N. Cheluvarayaswamy, on Thursday, inspected the works of the Yettinahole Drinking Water Project in Hassan district and stated that the government was committed to completing the project within two months.

Throughout the day, the Minister inspected the progress of the work at different locations in parts of Arasikere, Belur, and Sakleshpur taluks. At Sakleshpur, where the water is collected in eight weirs and pumped to the delivery chamber, he inspected the work and the efficiency of the pumping units.

The project has been designed to divert the west-flowing river water to meet the water needs of seven parched districts of the State. It has been proposed to lift 24.01 tmc of water available during the monsoon months from Yettinahole, Kadumanehole, Kerihole, and Hongadahalla—tributaries of the Netravati river. It is proposed to fill 527 tanks and benefit over 75 lakh people in 6,657 villages and 38 towns.

The Minister visited the Nayakanakere Kavalu area in Arasikere taluk and reviewed the progress of canal formation. He inspected the works at Idahalli Kaval in Belur taluk, where the construction of the canal is ongoing. The Minister instructed the engineers of the Visvesvaraya Jala Nigam Limited and the contractors to complete the work as per schedule and ensure the flow of the water. He also gave instructions to the officers of Hassan district administration on providing compensation for the land losers.

The Minister was accompanied by Excise Minister K.M. Shivalinge Gowda, who is also the Minister in-charge of Hassan district, legislators, and senior officers of the Hassan district administration, besides the officers of the VJNL.
