Dharwad district unit president of JD(S) Gururaj Hunasimarad has urged the authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation in the case involving Dharwad tahsildar Sachidananda Kuchanur, who was caught by Lokayukta officials while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹50 lakh.
Addressing a press conference in Dharwad on Friday, Mr. Hunasimarad alleged that influential persons were behind the tahsildar and that corruption had crossed all limits in taluk-level government offices and various departments in the district, particularly in matters concerning land records and revenue administration.
He claimed that farmers were being affected by alleged irregularities in land transactions and the maintenance of revenue records. He claimed that irregularities were taking place in the issuance of title deeds and updating of records at tahsildar offices.
He further alleged that companies and middlemen had acquired land belonging to farmers along highways around Dharwad, including in Itigatti, Lakamanahalli, and Yerikoppa, at low prices. He alleged that bribes were being demanded for entering names in pahani and khata records despite court orders relating to land records.
He called for a detailed inquiry into the alleged irregularities and urged the authorities to take action against officials and private individuals who were involved.
