Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Bindhu Krishna has said that the Dairy Development department must overcome existing challenges to accomplish the goal of achieving self-sufficiency in milk production. She was speaking at the valedictory session of the regional seminars organised as part of the department’s annual programme.
“The government aims to increase milk production to one crore litres per day within three years, and officials should strive to achieve this target even earlier. Alongside ongoing measures to regulate cattle feed prices, fodder cultivation needs to be further promoted. Initiatives are also being implemented to attract youth to the dairy sector. To fulfil these objectives, successful models and technological advancements in the field will be effectively utilised,” said the Minister.
Regional seminar
The regional seminar series concluded with the two-day southern regional seminar held in Kollam. Encompassing Kottayam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kollam, and Thiruvananthapuram districts, the southern regional seminar conducted a detailed review of project progress, various activities, district-level achievements, and future action plans.
Reports were presented by 58 block-level officers and five quality control officers. The seminar deliberated on key subjects such as dairy farmers’ welfare, development of the dairy sector, enhancement of productivity, and quality control.
The seminar proceedings were led by Dairy Development department director Shalini Gopinath, Dairy Farmers Welfare Fund chief executive officer Jija Krishnan, Dairy Development department joint director Sinila Krishnan, and deputy directors from various districts.
Earlier as part of the regional seminar series, the northern regional seminar was held in Kasaragod district on July 23 and 24, followed by the central regional seminar in Ernakulam district on July 30 and 31.
