Lord Malayappa Swamy and His consorts Sri Devi and Bhu Devi being taken round the Mada streets in a golden chariot on Sunday, the sixth day of the annual Brahmotsavams of Lord Venkateswara in Tirumala.
The sixth day of the annual Brahmotsavams of Lord Venkateswara in Tirumala turned lively on Sunday morning with devotion, music and traditional art forms, as the processional deity, Lord Malayappa Swamy, appeared in the divine form of ‘Kodandarama’ on ‘Hanumantha Vahanam’.
As the processional deity moved through the four Mada streets, accompanied by elephants leading the procession, devotees sang ‘bhajans’ and performed ‘kolatam’, while Jeeyangars’ recitations and strains of traditional ‘Mangala Vadyams’ added to the religious fervour. Devotees thronged the streets and offered camphor ‘haratis’ as the procession passed.
The ‘Hanumantha Vahana’ procession also turned into a vibrant showcase of India’s rich cultural diversity, with 25 traditional art troupes from 10 States and Singapore presenting a blend of dance, music and instrumental performances.
A total of 681 artistes participated in the cultural presentations, bringing an array of regional traditions to the sacred streets of Tirumala.
The evening saw the dazzling golden chariot procession, with Lord Malayappa Swamy, flanked by His consorts Sri Devi and Bhu Devi, taken around the Mada streets. The procession drew large crowds of devotees, who lined the streets and greeted the deity with fervent chants and offerings.
The day’s festivities concluded with the night procession of the ‘Gaja Vahana’.
TTD Executive Officer Muddada Ravichandra, Additional Executive Officer Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary, SVBC Chairman Sridhar Varma and other officials were present.
