A 46-year-old daily wage worker died after he suffered an electric shock while replacing a street light on an electricity pole at Pommampatti Colony in Patlur village in Erode district on Tuesday (September 22, 2026).
The deceased was identified as P. Madhan of Maravankuttai Colony in Anthiyur taluk. According to the police, Madhan had been engaged by the Patlur panchayat as a daily wage worker to replace a street light. Electricity supply to the street, where the work was scheduled, had reportedly been disconnected by Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited personnel.
However, Madhan inadvertently climbed a pole on a nearby street where power supply had not been disconnected to install the light. He suffered an electric shock and fell from the pole at around 2.15 p.m. He was taken to the Anthiyur Government Hospital, but, the doctor declared him dead. The body was sent for post-mortem examination. The Vellithiruppur police station are inquiring.
