A special court in Tiruvallur on Wednesday sentenced a 22-year-old man to a total of 15 years in prison for abducting a 15-year-old girl after allegedly promising to marry her.
The accused, Ranjith Kumar, 22, son of Arumugam of Indian Bank Colony in Ambattur, allegedly took the girl away on February 25, 2024. Following a complaint from the girl’s mother, the Ambattur All Women Police Station registered a case and conducted the investigation.
After completing the investigation, police filed the charge sheet and the case came up for trial before the Special Court for POCSO Cases in Tiruvallur. After finding the accused guilty, the court on Wednesday sentenced him to 15 years’ rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10,000.
