Skill development centres have made learning in schools more practical and student-centric, Minister for General Education N. Samsudheen has said.
He was speaking after performing the State-level inauguration of certificate distribution to those who had passed the skill development centre courses at Government Higher Secondary School, Kamaleswaram, here on Tuesday.
Mr. Samsudheen said the skill development centres are important along with academics. Schools should have means to identity talents of students and promote them. Students were able to learn skills in various sectors in the skill development centres, he said.
Steps were on to implement more programmes in schools through the Samagra Shiksha Keralam, the Minister said.
Distribution of certificates to 8,211 students who had completed courses at the 210 skill development centres functioning in government and aided schools across the 14 districts got under way at the function. The Minister gave away certificates to 41 students who had completed courses at the centre at Government Higher Secondary School, Kamaleswaram.
The skill development centres functioning as part of the SSK’s STARS (Strengthening Teaching-Learning and Results for States) scheme with the aim of helping students up to higher secondary level select a suitable employment sector. They foster skill training and entrepreneurship among students, provide technology-based learning experiences, and introduce them to emerging job sectors.
