The heavy rain lashing parts of Kerala for the last couple of days has weakened with a drop in the strength of the westerlies prevailing over the State.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), which had earlier issued a red alert for Kannur and Kasaragod on Wednesday (August 6, 2025), scaled down the alert to orange in its latest bulletin issued on Wednesday noon.

A yellow alert has been issued for Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad districts on Wednesday, where isolated heavy rain is likely.

The upper air cyclonic circulation that lay over north Kerala and its neighbourhood on Wednesday morning has now moved over to southern interior Karnataka and its neighbourhood.

Out of the 126 stations under the IMD, only four stations recorded heavy rainfall during the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday.

There would be a gradual reduction in the rainfall activity in the coming days in line with the weakening of the weather systems over the Bay of Bengal, the IMD said.
