Congress convention in Mangaluru in November, says new DKDCC president Padmaraj R. Poojary

Stating that the Congress will be reorganised from the booth-level, the new president of Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee (DKDCC) Padmaraj R. Poojary said here on Thursday that a massive convention of the party will be held in the city in the first week of November.

Speaking after taking charge in the party’s district office from outgoing president K. Harish Kumar, he said that he would personally visit the booths in every Assembly constituency in the next eight days.

Mr. Poojary said he would meet booth presidents and local workers directly, acknowledge their hard work, and stand in support of them. “The Congress is not merely a political force, it is a great movement that voices the aspirations of millions of ordinary people. The Congress embodies the hopes of the people,” he said.

“I will strive to restore the party’s past glory in Dakshina Kannada,” Mr. Poojary said.

He said that the Congress takes the credit of according additional administrative language status to Tulu. In addition, the Cabinet meeting held in Mangaluru on September 18 approved various projects pertaining to the coastal region. This achievement will be taken to every household.

Mr. Kumar said that winning every Assembly constituency in the next election will be a collective responsibility of party leaders and workers. “We have suffered setbacks due to internal divisions. Moving forward, we must demonstrate unity. Everyone must work like a soldier to ensure the Congress flag flies high across all eight Assembly constituencies in the district in the coming election,” he said.

KPCC Working President and Legislative Council Member Manjunath Bhandary said that party positions should not be reduced to mere ‘visiting cards’. Responsibilities will be assigned only to those who work actively.

Open applications have been invited for the posts of secretaries and coordinators within the KPCC, and a committee led by Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara will conduct interviews to entrust responsibilities solely to dynamic and proactive individuals, he said.

Mr. Bhandary said elections for gram panchayats, taluk panchayats, zilla panchayat, and Mangaluru City Corporation are likely to be held by the end of this year.
