An alert Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable rescued a 69-year-old passenger, who was dragged by a train after falling into the gap between the train and the platform, at Guindy railway station on Thursday evening.
The incident occurred around 5.30 p.m. when a Villupuram-Chennai Beach train started departing from Platform 1.
The passenger, Mohammed Elias, reportedly lost his footing while attempting to board the train and fell into the gap. He was dragged for nearly 50 metres as the train moved.
Constable Narayan Singh of Mambalam RPF, who was deployed at the Guindy station, noticed the passenger and immediately alerted the railway staff. Once the train was stopped, the constable pulled Elias to safety.
Elias sustained a bleeding injury to his left leg. The RPF personnel administered first-aid and called a 108 ambulance. He was given further medical attention inside the ambulance before returning home. The incident resulted in a four-minute delay to Train No. 66046, which remained at Guindy station from 5.30 p.m. to 5.34 p.m.
Railway authorities advised passengers not to board or alight from trains once they start moving.
