The Greater Chennai Corporation’s (GCC) Public Health Vector Control Department has removed 547.8 kg of used tyres and 1,773.6 kg of unused articles across its 15 zones, according to a press release.
The highest quantity of used tyres, at 135.5 kg, was removed from the Teynampet Zone, while Ambattur Zone recorded the highest quantity of unused articles removed at 208 kg, the release said.
The Tiruvottiyur Zone registered 32 kg of used tyres and 22 kg of unused articles, Manali Zone accounted for 15 kg of used tyres and 114.5 kg of unused articles, Madhavaram Zone registered 22 kg and 110 kg, and Tondiarpet Zone recorded 12 kg and 43 kg respectively, Royapuram Zone cleared 64 kg of used tyres and 92 kg of unused articles, while Thiru. Vi. Ka. Nagar Zone accounted for 27 kg and 132.5 kg.
Ambattur Zone removed 70 kg of used tyres as on September 23.
