SHRC issues notice to LSGD and Thiruvananthapuram Corporation on stray dog menace

The State Human Rights Commission has registered a case and issued notices to the Principal Secretary of the Local Self-Government department and the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation Secretary, following a complaint that authorities are failing to take action despite a dangerous rise in the stray dog ​​menace in the district.

The action by Chairperson Justice Alexander Thomas follows a complaint filed by social activist P.K. Raju, based on media reports. According to the complainant, daily life has become unbearable for residents of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, the municipalities of Nedumangad, Varkala and Attingal and various panchayats across Thiruvananthapuram district due to stray dog attacks. The complainant alleged that officials responsible for taking action have failed to do so even as the number of hotspots has increased.
