Tambaram City Police seized 12 kg of ganja and arrested five persons in separate operations conducted as part of a special drive against narcotic drugs on Friday.
Selaiyur police arrested Manikantan, 28, of Palayamkottai in Tirunelveli district, and Adarsh, 24, of Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, near the MCC flyover at East Tambaram railway station. Police seized 5.3 kg of ganja and a mobile phone from them.
In a separate operation, the Guduvanchery Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) team arrested Manabhanjan Padhi, 47, of Ganjam district in Odisha, at Kamarajapuram Lake Bund. A total of ₹5 kg of ganja, ₹1 lakh in cash, a mobile phone and a scooter were seized from him.
The Pallikaranai PEW team arrested Shaik Ali, 20, of West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh, near the East Tambaram railway grounds and seized 1.25 kg of ganja and a mobile phone. Tambaram police arrested Shanjai, 20, of Thiruneermalai, Kadapperi, at Kuppamedu on Kiskintha Road and seized 450 grams of ganja.
Cases were registered against the accused under various provisions of the NDPS Act.
