Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar unveiled the logo and website for the 50th Chennai Book Fair on Friday.
The Golden Jubilee edition of the Chennai Book Fair, to be organised by Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India (BAPASI), would be held from 7 January to 19 January 2027 at YMCA Grounds in Nandanam.
Mr. Prabhakar said he plans to create a library in his Thousand Lights constituency office. He said that it would be nice if MLAs could set up libraries in their offices. “Lot of visitors come to see us, and it may take time for us to see them. During this waiting period, it would help them if they can spend this time reading a book,” he said.
Mr. Prabhakar noted that those who frequented 162 libraries in the city the most this year, could be identified and the top three visitors may be given prizes. He also said that on account of the book fair, speech and essay writing competitions on the topic of reading could be held in schools in Chennai.
R.S. Shanmugam, president of BAPASI said the government granted ₹1 crore to organise the Golden Jubilee event of the book fair and a Government Order was also passed in this regard.
Layola Mani, chairman of the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation and M. Kavitha, district library officer, Chennai also spoke at the event.
