Ganesh idol immersions continue on September 26 in Hyderabad as long truck queues clog Tank Bund stretch

Ganesh idol immersion at Hussain Sagar continued on Saturday (September 26, 2026) morning, with a large number of idols still awaiting immersion and a long queue of trucks stretching along the Tank Bund area.

The movement of Ganesh idols towards Tank Bund had remained heavy through Friday night, with several parts of Hyderabad witnessing traffic congestion as processions made their way towards the immersion points. Major gridlock was reported at Mozamjahi Market, Shalibanda, Afzalgunj, Lakdikapul, Himayatnagar and on routes leading towards Tank Bund.

The heavy movement of trucks carrying idols, along with a large turnout of devotees and vehicles, particularly families arriving in large numbers, slowed traffic movement and contributed to delays in the immersion process.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar said in a video message posted on X on Saturday (September 26, 2026) morning that traffic restrictions would continue through the day on major procession routes in view of the ongoing Ganesh idol immersion.

The restrictions will remain in force on Tank Bund, Necklace Road, NTR Marg, PV Statue and areas around Indira Gandhi Rotary, among other routes being used by the immersion processions, he said.

Mr. Sajjanar appealed to motorists to avoid these routes unless there was an emergency and advised commuters to postpone their journeys or take alternative routes. He also urged people to avoid venturing onto congested roads unnecessarily as the immersion processions continued.
