Five youths assault girl in Bihar’s Kishanganj; SIT arrests one

Bihar witnessed another case of harassment in Kishanganj district, where a video of a young girl and his male friend being assaulted by youths has gone viral on social media.

This is the fifth case within a week after incidents of harassment and molestation of minor girls have been reported from Jamui and Banka, whereas two cases were found in Samastipur district.

The incident took place under the jurisdiction of Dighalbank Police Station area. In the video, a group of youths was seen stopping a young man and woman travelling on a motorcycle and misbehaving with them.

The footage shows the youths forcibly grabbing the woman’s hand and assaulting her. One of the accused was heard asking the girl that, being a Muslim, what was she doing with a Hindu boy.

Kishanganj police received the video late at night on September 24, 2026, following which a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed, and raids were conducted to arrest the accused.

Santosh Kumar, the Superintendent of Police (SP), Kishanganj, personally inspected the place where the incident took place with a police team and issued instructions to expedite action against people responsible for the act. According to the police, the video is 4–5 months old and probably happened in May 2026. 

Kishanganj police also said that by reviewing the video, it was observed that a group of 8–9 youths had surrounded a young woman, and 4–5 of them were shouting at and physically assaulting her. The incident occurred near Tulsiya Halt Railway Station.

“Based on video footage during the investigation, five accused have been identified, namely Afsar alias Tajemul, Zubair Khan, Mizan alias Salman, Kamil and Shahzad of nearby villages,” Kishanganj police said on Friday (September 25, 2026).

Out of five, the prime accused Shahzad has been arrested by the SIT and the four other accused involved in the assault have fled to other states: Afsar in Gujarat, Zubair Khan in Haryana, Mizan in Karnataka and Kamil in Punjab. Police are verifying details of the other accused, and raids are underway to apprehend them.

“The victim has been identified, and during questioning, she stated that she had gone to the railway station to meet a male friend. Some youths from nearby villages spotted her and started harassing and assaulting her, questioning how she could have a Hindu friend. Further investigation revealed that a village-level panchayat had previously been convened by the Mukhiya (village head) over this matter, and the dispute had been resolved at the local level,” police said.

However, police registered a case based on the victim’s statement, and the SIT, led by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO)-02, Kishanganj, is taking further action. SIT has been asked to identify and arrest all the individuals involved in the case.

The opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has been continuously attacking the State government over the viral videos and molestation case in Bihar, alleging that law and order is on its deathbed.
