The Kadayanallur police have arrested four persons, including a teenage girl, for allegedly abducting an old man and robbing him of 23 grams of gold ornaments.
Police said an unidentified person, who came to the mattress shop of Santhanakrishnan, 76, in Kadayanallur on September 16, asked him to show a few pillows to his physically-challenged relative sitting in his car. When Mr. Santhanakrishhan took the pillows to the car parked in front his shop, the strangers sitting inside the car pulled him into the car and kidnapped him. After taking his gold ornaments weighing 23 grams, the kidnappers pushed Mr. Santhanakrishnan from the car and escaped with the booty.
After collecting the CCTV footages from the scene of crime, the Kadayanallur police identified kingpin of the abductors as E. Lakshmanan, 25, of Kulavanigarpuram in Palayamkottai and detained him on Friday.
During interrogation, Lakshmanan told the police that his ‘social media friend’ S. Subha, 19, of Ambedkar Street in Kadayanallur had developed enmity with Mr. Santhanakrishnan after he reportedly demanded more money for the gold ornaments she had pledged in his pawn shop, also functioning from the mattress shop.
As she wanted to take revenge, Subha sought the help of her ‘social media friend’ Lakshmanan, who kidnapped Mr. Santhanakrishnan with the help of his associates D. Chandru, 24, of Meenakshipuram in Tirunelveli, and M. Mano, 23, of Gangaikondan.
The Kadayanallur police arrested all the four who were remanded in judicial custody on Friday.
