The district administration, in association with Spectra NEET Coaching Centre, has started a training programme for Plus One and Plus Two students from government schools aspiring to go to medical college.
At the inauguration of the initiative, ‘Collector Super 30’, here on Saturday, Collector Anand Mohan said students from affluent families could afford to pay the hefty fee for NEET coaching, while government school students, who were mostly from poor families, could not.
Hence, the centre had been established to train up to 50 students from government schools, who would undergo two-year free and meticulously prepared rigorous coaching module over the weekend.
“We have floated the venture to help the disadvantaged children conquer their dream of donning the white coat,” said Mr. Anand Mohan.
He planned to meet the expenditure with the help of corporate social responsibility funds of firms in the district and generous contributions of volunteers.
On student dropout issue, the Collector said the dropouts were mostly exposed to drugs or alcohol or getting acquainted with anti-social elements or caste leaders, who exploited them for their nefarious activities. And, a few others became child labourers to help their families.
Hence, the Block Resource Teachers were working towards bring them back to schools and colleges with the district administration facilitating their readmission and continued education by paying the tuition fee.
District Educational Officer Sivakumar, Spectra NEET Coaching Centre director Karthik and administrative manager Suresh were present.
