A drive to administer anti-rabies booster vaccination to stray dogs was launched in the city, marking the World Rabies Day on Monday.
Corporation Commissioner N. Ponmani inaugurated the programme on the premises of the Animal Welfare Board. Ravichandran, regional director, Animal Welfare Board, and City Health Officer M. Karthikeyan were present.
Of the 43,767 stray dogs in the city, 36,090 have been sterilised.
In the past year, 5,000 stray dogs have been vaccinated with the anti-rabies booster dose. Approximately 10,000 dogs will be given the booster dose in the ongoing phase of the programme, according to a Corporation press release.
