Two persons drowned in separate incidents along the Chennai and Tiruvallur coast on Sunday night.
In the first incident, a 51-year-old mason drowned while bathing in the sea at Pulicat during a family outing on Sunday night. The police identified the victim as Gurumoorthy of Rajapalayam in Virudhunagar district.
While bathing in the sea, he fell unconscious after attempting somersaults in the water.
His relatives pulled him out and took him to Pulicat Government Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The police suspect that he drowned.
In the second incident, a 19-year-old student at Loyola College drowned after being swept away by strong waves while bathing in the beach near Palagai Thotti Kuppam, the police said. The victim, Sunil, was a resident of Sivasakthi Nagar in Tiruvottiyur. His body washed ashore and was recovered by the Tiruvottiyur police.
