A major fire broke out at Koder House, a key heritage landmark in Fort Kochi, on Tuesday (September 29, 2026), triggering a panic in the beach town. The fire erupted on one of the top floors of the three-storey building on Tower Road in the evening and spread to other areas.
No casualty has been reported yet. Fire and Rescue Services units from Mattancherry were trying to douse the fire.
The restored Indo-Portuguese residence, which is part of Kochi’s Jewish heritage, has been functioning as a luxury boutique hotel. The structure was originally built in 1808.
