Welcoming the historic step of integrating Mangaluru Railway Region with South Western Railway (SWR), eminent railway activist Prakash Mandoth has urged the Railway Ministry to immediately establish additional divisional railway manager (ADRM) office in Mangaluru for the comprehensive development of the region.
Mr. Mandoth, a former member of Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committees of South Western and Southern Railway, told The Hindu that an experienced and senior officer should be posted to handle post-integration issues and take forward development activities of Mangaluru. While the region did not witness adequate development for the past three decades, it is now time to unleash a host of infrastructure development activities and introduction of new trains, he said.
He said the ADRM should take up issues of developing required infrastructure to handle coaching and freight trains, and provide various amenities. Mangaluru Region should get more pit lines for primary maintenance of coaching trains, and also more stabling lines to stable long-distance trains. The division should look at operating more trains between the coast and Bengaluru, and beyond, by enhancing the Subrahmanya Road-Sakleshpur ghat section capacity, Mr. Mandoth demanded.
