In response to the nationwide ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign, South Coast Railway (SCoR) conducted a mega cleanliness and awareness drive at the Visakhapatnam Railway Station on Thursday.

General Manager Sandeep Mathur led the Shramdaan initiative under the national theme ‘Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath,’ joined by principal Heads of Departments, senior officers, and staff. Additionally a mega plantation drive under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative will be organised at the newly constructed Zonal Office Building complex in Mudasarlova on Friday.

The campaign commenced in the Gnanapuram circulating and station entry area, covering the adjoining premises. Mr Mathur also conducted a comprehensive inspection of the station, with a specific focus on platform no. 8.

Emphasising technological upgrades, Mr. Mathur reviewed the operation of ride-on heavy-duty scrubber-driers, high-pressure jet cleaners, and mechanized floor sweepers. A newly introduced electrically operated smart compaction litter bin facility was formally inaugurated by a station Safai Mitra during the event.

Inspecting vital passenger interface areas—including drinking water booths, waiting halls, catering stalls, foot overbridges, and track beds—the General Manager reviewed solid waste segregation and disposal procedures, instructing officials to adopt modern, scientific disposal mechanisms.

To curb littering, the administration and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) have been directed to enforce strict monitoring through the station CCTV surveillance network and levy deterrent spot fines against offenders.

Interacting directly with passengers on the platforms, Mathur sought real-time feedback on station amenities and appealed to the public to act as active partners in the Swachh Bharat mission by refraining from littering and utilising designated waste bins.
