The Grand Bazaar police have registered a case against MLA and founder of Neyam Makkal Kazhagam, G. Nehru alias Couppussamy, for the ruckus he and his supporters had allegedly created during a protest held on the portico of the Puducherry Legislative Assembly a few days ago.
A case has been registered against Mr. Nehru under Section 189 (3) (punishment for unlawful assembly), 329 (4) (trespass), 296 (b) (for obscene act), 121 (1) (causing simple hurt), and 351 (2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and under sections of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, the police said.
The Orleanpet legislator had staged a protest on the portico of the Assembly to highlight law-and-order issues in Puducherry. As the protest was under way, the legislator got into an argument with Pro-tem Speaker A. Anbalagan and Minister for Public Works Malladi Krishna Rao, while they were entering the Assembly.
After a brief altercation at the portico, the legislator went to the cabin of the Minister and was engaged in an altercation there. The police registered the case following a complaint given by the Legislative Assembly Secretariat.
