The ‘Vettri Payanam’ scheme launched by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Friday (October 2, 2026) covers 2,108 buses in Coimbatore region, encompassing Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode and the Nilgiris districts.

In Coimbatore district, women began availing themselves of the benefit of the no-fare bus travel scheme in 790 buses deployed for Limited Stop Service, deluxe, and ordinary services.

The scheme designed to uplift the economic status of women is vital, as it will pave the way for the State’s progress, Minister for Backward Classes Welfare V. Sampath Kumar, said, after the launch of the scheme, at Gandhipuram in Coimbatore city.

Four lakh women are expected to benefit from the scheme in Coimbatore district, with a sense of dignity. The savings women are able to make on a daily basis will be of utmost utility to raise their living standards.

Responding to a query, the Minister said the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam Government’s achievements over the last 120 days is drawing supporters and functionaries from all other parties, Mr. Sampath Kumar said.
