Two men were sentenced to 20 years in prison under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on Thursday (October 1, 2026) evening, on charges of sexually assaulting a minor girl.
One of the accused in the case, Ramesh, 32, a resident of Elachipalayam, was an ambulance driver. On May 23, 2021, he and his friend Prabakaran were arrested under the POCSO Act by the Elachipalayam police for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl.
The trial of the case was conducted at the Fast Track Mahila Court in Namakkal and on Thursday, the court found the duo guilty. Each of them were awarded 20 years’ imprisonment, besides a fine of ₹3,000 each.
