The Hyderabad and Cyberabad Traffic Police conducted special drunken driving enforcement drives over the weekend, booking more than 690 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol.
In Hyderabad, the traffic police carried out a two-day special drive on January 30 and January 31. A total of 356 drivers were caught driving under the influence of alcohol. Of them, 302 were two-wheeler riders, 21 were three-wheeler drivers and 33 were driving four-wheelers and other vehicles.
Police said 89 drivers recorded blood alcohol concentration levels between 30 mg and 50 mg per 100 ml of blood, 143 between 51 mg and 100 mg, 64 between 101 mg and 150 mg, 34 between 151 mg and 200 mg, 16 between 201 mg and 250 mg, seven between 251 mg and 300 mg and three above 300 mg.
Meanwhile, Cyberabad Traffic Police conducted a weekend special enforcement drive and apprehended 340 offenders. Of these, 275 were riding two-wheelers, 14 were driving three-wheelers, 48 were driving four-wheelers and three were operating heavy vehicles.
According to police, 273 offenders in Cyberabad recorded BAC levels between 35 mg and 200 mg per 100 ml of blood, 46 between 201 mg and 300 mg, and 21 between 301 mg and 550 mg. All offenders will be produced before the court.
Cyberabad Traffic Police also said that during the period from January 26 to January 31, courts disposed of 257 drunken driving cases. Five offenders were sentenced to a combination of fine and jail term, 12 were given fine and social service, while 240 were fined.
