More than 70 litres of liquor were seized in separate raids conducted by police and Excise officials against alleged illegal sales in Hyderabad on Gandhi Jayanti, when liquor outlets remained closed.
Mangalhat police said a special drive against illegal belt shops led to the seizure of 50.01 litres of liquor and the registration of five separate cases.
Police apprehended five persons for allegedly stocking and selling liquor without valid licences. The press note, however, lists four unique names, with Ashok Singh, 67, appearing twice among the five entries. Among those named were Rahul Singh, 31, from whom 5.48 litres was seized, Om Prakash Singh, 45, with 25.56 litres, Ashok Singh with 9.12 litres, and Suresh Singh, 38, with 5.85 litres. Police said further investigation was underway in the five cases.
In a separate operation, an Excise enforcement team conducted raids within the Rajendranagar Excise police station limits following information about liquor being sold on Gandhi Jayanti. The team seized 17.22 litres of Indian-made liquor and 4.55 litres of beer, according to Hyderabad Enforcement Inspector Bharat Bhushan. The seized stock was handed over to the Rajendranagar Excise Station.
The same enforcement team also intercepted the alleged sale of 17 bottles of Defence liquor in the Secunderabad area. The bottles were subsequently handed over to the Secunderabad Excise Station. The quantity of the 17 bottles was not specified.
