Tanker lorry drivers in Salem staged a strike at the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) on Saturday (October 3, 2026), demanding basic amenities. The strike was withdrawn after six hours.

The BPCL depot is functioning at Naranappanchavadi near Sankari and fuels are supplied to BPCL petrol bunks in the Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Namakkal and Erode districts through more than 120 tanker lorries.

Meanwhile, at 6 a.m. on Saturday, the tanker lorry drivers, led by lorry drivers and cleaners association president K. Devarajan, halted their vehicles and began their strike demanding basic amenities. The BPCL officials held talks with protesters and gave assurance to fulfil their demands.

Following this, the drivers withdrew their strike around 12 p.m. Due to the strike, fuel movement from the depot to five districts was affected for six hours.
