The Communist Party of India has requested the Election Department to strengthen surveillance in Thattanchavady constituency following complaints of distribution of money and gifts to voters for the October 6 bypoll.
CPI secretary and party candidate for Thattanchavady bypoll A. M. Saleem in a memorandum to Chief Electoral Officer ASPS Ravi Prakash said the recent seizure of gold worth around ₹3.62 crore, ₹1.78 crore in cash and 181 litres of unaccounted liquor pointed towards the attempts being made to lure voters.
“Hence, we request the Election Department to strengthen surveillance and deploy more drones in vulnerable areas to check misuse of money power. Complaints about distribution of money and gifts should be immediately addressed by the department,” the memorandum said.
