A large number of people participated in a “Mammorun” organised by Dr. K. Shantha Breast Cancer Foundation and Dr. G. Viswanathan Group of Hospitals in Tiruchi to raise awareness about breast cancer.

The 21-km run was flagged off by Seetharaman, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Srirangam, from the hospital premises at Mambazhasalai. The 5-km fun run was flagged off by V. Balakrishnan, Inspector-General of Police, Central Zone, Tiruchi, from the Uzhavar Sandhai at Tennur.

The event concluded at Jamal Mohamed College, where prizes were given away to the winners and medals and certificates were presented to the participants.

The Foundation operates a “Mammo Bus” that travels across urban and rural areas to provide on-site breast cancer screening and conduct awareness programmes. Free screening camps have been organised in Tiruchi and neighbouring districts. The initiatives have reached more than five lakh women, screened 48,000 women, and helped detect 41 cases of breast cancer, K. Govindaraj, Chairman, said.
