The Telangana government has felicitated Hyderabad-based non-profit Youngistaan Foundation for its work towards the welfare, care and social inclusion of senior citizens.

The felicitation was held during the State-level observance of the International Day of Older Persons 2026 at Ravindra Bharathi in Hyderabad on October 1. The honour was presented by Minister for Scheduled Castes Development, Tribal Welfare, Welfare of Persons with Disabilities, Senior Citizens and Transgender Persons Adluri Laxman Kumar.

Youngistaan Foundation has reached more than 850 senior citizens across Hyderabad through its various initiatives. Its work extends to 15 senior citizen and elder-care homes and more than 30 gated communities, senior citizen welfare associations and residential welfare associations. The organisation provides groceries, food and medicines, supports old-age homes, and offers counselling and rehabilitation to vulnerable and homeless elderly persons.

The Foundation is currently expanding its work through Senior Saathi, an intergenerational companionship initiative developed in collaboration with the Hyderabad District Administration and the Department for Welfare of Disabled and Senior Citizens. Under the programme, trained young volunteers are paired with senior citizens for regular conversations, reading, games, walks, community activities and shared meals.
