“The RSS is the real threat to the country, not the BJP,” B.K. Hariprasad, KPCC president, said in Dharwad on Sunday. Addressing the Pratirodha rally against fascist forces, he urged Congress workers to join all pro-people movements.
“The RSS is the ‘brain and soul’ of the BJP. It poses a greater threat to democracy and the country’s social fabric. We need to understand this and have clarity about various ideologies. We need to realise that the fight against fascist forces like the BJP and the Sangh Parivar goes beyond electoral politics. They are into cultural politics, and we should face them on all possible platforms,” he said.
He called upon Congress workers, cutting across party lines, to join people’s movements against the RSS and its activities. He claimed that the Congress was the only major secular party in the country. Unlike the BJP, where people from only a few communities were given positions, the Congress was a “congregation of all types of people” that provides equal representation to people from different classes, castes, and gender groups, he said.
He assured support to all those fighting against what he termed the anti-social and anti-democratic policies of the BJP and RSS.
Mr. Hariprasad alleged that the RSS had not hoisted the tricolour at its office for decades after Independence and said that the organisation had no respect for the national anthem. “The RSS is invoking pseudo-patriotism while spreading hatred between communities and dividing society. We need to remain vigilant and make a collective effort to ‘push them to the walls’,” he said.
