The police have launched an investigation after a drone was found lying on the premises of the Coimbatore International Airport.
The police said that Central Industrial Security Force personnel spotted a drone inside the airport compound, close to the perimeter wall, on October 1. They examined the device and reported it to higher officials and airport authorities.
According to the police, the airport’s chief security officer lodged a complaint at the Peelamedu station regarding the incident. The police registered a case under Sections 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 285 (danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation) and 329 (3) (criminal trespass) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on October 2.
“As per preliminary investigations, it appears to be a toy drone. Children from the neighbourhood could have operated the drone, which subsequently fell inside the airport compound. They would not have known the restrictions on flying remotely piloted aircraft systems near airports. The drone did not have a camera, microphone or other suspicious devices attached to it,” said a police officer.
Further investigation is on.
